Without a tour guide, we really didn’t learn much about this Buddhist monastery we went to. Good thing we have the internet. This temple was built in 1580 during the Ming Dynasty. It was visited by the third Tibetan Dalai Lama in 1586 when he came to dedicate a 8.2 foot Buddha statue.
At the bottom of this big bowl was a littler bowl. If you could drop a coin through the water and have it land in that smaller bowl, your wish will come true. It’s like Plinko. None of us made it.
This big tree stump was supposed to have the 12 zodiac animals in it, but all we could find was the tiger.
I’m slightly confused because the internet says that the main feature is the huge Silver Buddha Statue, but we were told that it was made out of 40 tons of jade…or was it 400 tons? Either way, I think this was what the Dalai Lama dedicated.
