one thing i will never understand

what is it that i can't stand about moustaches?
why is it that guys think they are so great?
why do they almost annually chose a month out of the year to be moust
ache month and refuse to shave it?
why does BYU allow moustaches and not beards?
see how much better?

i will never understand.

A True Wisconsinite

I refuse to use an umbrella in the snow.

I also refuse to slip in the slush while walking to school.

I love Wisconsin.

Goodbye to February

A whole month gone in 28 days. I know it's only 2 or 3 days shorter than the rest of the months, but it makes all the difference. So what's new, you wonder?

1) The internet in our complex is not functioning for reasons outside of my control. Therefore, we are spending more time on campus. Our world really does depend on fast communication through the internet. How did we ever live without it?

2) I started choreographing for Dancer's Company. It's fun to have dancers that you know you can push to do almost anything.

3) I have completely filled up my spring and summer with plans. China in the spring, teaching at BYU Modern and Jazz camp the next two weeks, taking class from guest artists at BYU's summer intensive for the next two weeks, going to the Ririe-Woodbury workshop in Salt Lake for the next three weeks, hopefully going to Disneyland, and getting back in time to start school again.

4) Disney is having a promotion for February where you give a day to get a day. My roommates and I are going to serve/sing at an elderly care place on Sunday, and getting free tickets for a day at Disneyland for it!

5) I learned they don't sell rice noodles or bean sprouts at Smiths. Thus, I could not make pad thai and had to buy orange chicken mix from a box. Disappointing.

6) I have burned myself several times. Okay, maybe just twice. But that's far above the average in one week for me. Once on a hair straightener. Once in the oven.

7) iTunes tells me that my most played song is "The Scientist" by Coldplay, though I haven't listened to it for quite a while. Most likely that is because it's on my Sleepytime mix, which often plays late at night in the apartment, but we don't pay much attention to it...because we are usually sleepy.

8) I want to think of 3 more things so that I have ten, but I also want to eat this yogurt sitting beside me...then possibly take a nap. Yes I am at school (since I'm on the internet).

Joyeux Noel

This film, directed by Christian Carion, dramatizes a scene between the Germans, Scots, and French on Christmas Eve 1914, during World War I. The film is dedicated to those soldiers who did in fact call a cease fire and peacefully celebrated Christmas Eve together on the front lines. It is an amazing story of love and peace and an analysis of humanity. Beautiful film.

Without an enemy there can be no war.

v day?

what might you do on valentine's day when there is no school the next day and all your roommates have deserted you for better places? i might suggest the following...

1. listen to "the love mix" on your itunes, and especially this song

2. hopefully you have more food in your house than i did. if not, stick to cheese sticks, pretzels, toast, and tortillas. carbs are better than chocolate anyways, right?

3. watch a movie--start with a foreign one, recommended by your cousin, if your cousin is as into foreign movies as mine is, then realize that Joyeux Noël is too intense for the moment and switch to something more light-hearted, like Up.

4. consider going to bed, then think twice, grab a blanket, and go back to the couch.

5. watch episodes of the Office, and maybe season 4 finale of Lost, if you are as far behind as I am

6. fall asleep on the couch. why not?

happy valentine's day to all the people i love so much, and even the ones i don't necessarily love so much. they probably aren't reading my blog anyway.

side note: classic skating is crazy, especially on disco night. not really my scene.

a breath of fresh air

After many not-to-satisfying Office episodes, this one takes the cake.

Watch it. Watch it. Watch it now.

baby steps

So, free trial of Netflix is far past done and my movie watching has decreased dramatically. If I watch anything good, though, I'll keep the reviews coming. But for now, the big news is that I made my very first pizza--totally from scratch, totally myself.
There it is, in all it's glory. Chicken Pesto Pizza, with artichoke hearts. So tasty, and so simple. So I might have lied when I said TOTALLY from scratch (my English teacher tells me I need to be careful with -ly verbs like that). I didn't make the pesto sauce, I bought it. But the dough...let is rise, beat it down, rolled it out, the whole shabang.

It's a goal of mine to become a pizza making champ--with all sorts of unique combinations and flavors. I'd say I'm headed in the right direction.
