Too Many Daves by Dr. Seuss

Did I ever tell you that Mrs. McCave
Had twenty-three sons, and she named them all Dave?

Well, she did. And that wasn't a smart thing to do.
You see, when she wants one, and calls out "Yoo-Hoo!
Come into the house, Dave!" she doesn't get one.
All twenty-three Daves of hers come on the run!

This makes things quite difficult at the McCaves'
As you can imagine, with so many Daves.
And often she wishes that, when they were born,
She had named one of them Bodkin Van Horn.
And one of them Hoos-Foos. And one of them Snimm.
And one of them Hot-Shot. And one Sunny Jim.
And one of them Shadrack. And one of them Blinkey.
And one of them Stuffy. And one of them Stinkey.
Another one Putt-Putt. Another one Moon Face.
Another one Marvin O'Gravel Balloon Face.
And one of them Ziggy. And one Soggy Muff.
One Buffalo Bill. And one Biffalo Buff.
And one of them Sneepy. And one Weepy Weed.
And one Paris Garters. And one Harris Tweed.
And one of them Sir Michael Carmichael Zutt.
And one of them Oliver Boliver Butt.
And one of them Zanzibar Buck-Buck Mcfate . . . .

But she didn't do it. And now it's too late.

What Does This List Mean?

Today I received a pretty funny e-mail from a choreographer who will be working with the Dancers' Company this coming week. He had a list of things he wanted us to bring to rehearsal on Monday. Please tell me this is as funny as I thought it was.

They will need:
- Knee pads.
- Water bottles and Gatorade or Propel or Powerade (some type of electrolyte/sugar replenishment).
- Sweat towels or hand towels.
- A spiral notebook and pencil for notes.
- A change of clothes in the event of excessive sweating.
- Women should bring ankle length leggings, if they have them. (preferably black)

My personal favorite is the change of clothes in the event of excessive sweating. Really? I can't wait to see what we will be doing tomorrow morning...

Oh Huatulco!

In Huatulco, Oaxaca, we had lots of fun:Joce and Jacque were pretty silly the whole time...
we stood around in the water, getting swept away sometimes...
Joce ate a lot of dry Raisin Bran...
Joce and I sat on the beach watching the sun go down having deep conversations...
went to the most beautiful beach, Maguey...
we didn't surf...
but Joce and Jacque found some pretty awesome treasure.

After about 14 hours of travel, we are back in Tehuacan for about 18 hours, then we begin another 15 hours of travel until we are back in Salt Lake!

The Last Saturday Night in Tehuacan!

Jacque and I and our host sisters met up at a cafe and listened to some live music on our last Saturday night in Tehuacan. We both got Strawberry Milkshakes, too.

Jacque showing her gums.
Me getting ready to flash gang signs.
Funny bathroom sign.

My Family

Mom and brother. Their names? Norma and Estuardo.
Me and sister. Her name is Zaire.

My host mom gets a kick out of the fact that my dad's name is Douglas, because my host dad's name is Douglas, too. She likes to use that fact in her arguments that I really am her lost daughter.

El Mercado

I absolutely love the Farmer's Market in Madison, WI--the biggest and best in the nation. I just wish you fellow market lovers could see this one. This is maybe 1/20th of the whole market. What can you buy there? Ridiculously amazing smelling vanilla, cinnamon sticks, all the fruit and vegetables you want, flowers, pottery, clothes, CD's, pig fat and other random pig parts, big loaves of bread, seeds, beans, chiles, herbs, tacos, donuts, fruit drinks, earrings, remote controls...the list goes on and on.
I think these bags of seeds, grains, and such are so beautiful. I really just want to dig my hands in there and play around in them, actually.
What are my market essentials? Pan de Burro, Camotes (sweet potatoes, all cooked and ready to eat), and delicious, peelable mangoes.

A Beautiful Mixture

Recipe to make Jocelyn and I happier than little school children:

1. One-half a banana, cut up
2. One quart of strawberries, also cut up
3. A little bit of granola
4. A little bit more All-Bran Flakes
5. A wee bit of vanilla flavored milk
6. A wee bit more normal flavored milk
Heaven in a bowl.
